"Near the border of Maine, USA, I was born Deaf in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. When I was 3 years old, my parents and I sailed on Northumberland Strait for lobster fishing with his friends. I grew up and I knew nothing about sailing. I obtained the sailing certifications from American Sailing Association (ASA) in November 2010. Every summer, I work and volunteer at sailing club for disabled sailors. I also teach sailing courses. For more than 10 years, I chartered different sailboats in California, New England and France. I mostly teach online ASL classes at my college in Toronto, Canada."
“Hello! I have known Troy since we were teenagers. However our lives diverged after we graduated from high school. I was attending university in England when a Scottish family invited me to sail on their boat from England to sail along the coast of Spain for a month. While it was a great experience and I will never forget it, I didn't pursue it actively until years later. Captain Troy and I connected years later where we started scuba diving together. After scuba diving, Troy expanded on that to include sailing. Once Troy started sailing seriously, so did I.” 😊
“I am the co-founder of Cape Cod Deaf Sailing. I was born into a keen sailing family and frequently raced with my brother in sailing regattas as a crew trimmer in which we shared numerous trophies. Since 1986, I did extensive bareboat chartering off the coast from Maine to Maryland. I sailed with my friends as a crew member from Bermuda to Maryland and from North Carolina to Florida. Cape Cod is where my heart finds the art of sailing with my passion to share with the world. I am an avid sailor, photographer and chef with a predilection for adventures.”
"I love living near the ocean all of my life. When I was 10 years old, my parents sent me to the Avalon Yacht Club for learning how to sail with my two brothers. Many years later, I decided to take ASA sailing courses with Troy. We sailed in Southern California. In May 2019, my wife and I went to the French Riviera for sailing with Troy. Later, I was invited by Troy to be his first mate for sailing in France and New England. I have earned good sailing experience and sailing skills. Currently, I live with my wife and children in Ocean City, Maryland USA."
“Iam the co-founder of Cape Cod Deaf Sailing and I reside in Maryland. I have an extensive experience as a camp director of Camp Mark Seven in Old Forge, NY. I discovered the world of sailing for the first time when I got my first sailboat model as a gift from my father at the age of 10. Later, I founded Deaf Sailors Club in Maryland. It ran for four years. I took a sailing course to earn my certification. Along with Tom Peets and our friends, we frequently sailed off the coast of Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and Rhode Island. Tom Peets and I delivered a sailboat from Bermuda to America. New England Coast is truly a sailor's paradise where I find well-suited with my love for sailing."
" I was profoundly Deaf using British Sign Language and practical basic ASL. When I was a kid, I started learning how to row on a boat on the lake with my brother and dad. When I turned 23, I started learning how to sail on a dinghy on the river. I fell in love with sailing, and I continued in learning more sailing for Royal Yacht Association sailing certifications with the qualified competent crew on different yachts including catamaran since 1995. Last May 2022, I was a guest on Capt. Troy's yacht on French Riviera. At present, I am doing actively solo cycling, snow skiing, and sailing sometime through rough years."
"I hail from a third-generation fisherman family in New England. Despite my grandfather's ambitious plan to relocate to Florida and launch a deep-sea fishing business, his untimely demise at the age of 40 altered our course. My mother, however, kept his sea tales alive for me. I was born in California, my fascination with the ocean deepened. After high school I earned my scuba certificate. Where my adventurous spirit led me to Hawaii for six years, where I surfed towering waves by day and worked as a professional spearfisherman by night. A transformative moment occurred when I sailed on a catamaran, sparking a newfound love for sailing. Initially set on circumnavigating the globe with my brother, but life led me to France, where I became a father to two daughters. A decade later, armed with ASA sailing certificates from the incredible Captain Troy! To be continue with my seafaring journeys."
"In the summer of 2022, I was trained how to sail in Puck, Poland for 5 weeks. I was the former Olympian athlete (Deaf Winter Games) with the U.S. team for curling. At 2nd World Deaf Championship Game in Puck, Poland, I raced on a 19-foot sailboat (Class Mariner 19) for the U.S. team on the Baltic Sea. Since the sailing race in Poland, I fell in love with the sport of sailing. With my new passion, I decided it was time for me to learn how to sail on a bi sailboat. I took the sailing courses with my sailing instructor Troy Stilwell in Marina del Rey, California last February 2023. I earned 3 American Sailing certifications; 101 (Basic Keelboat), 103 (Basic Coastal Cruising), and 104 (Bareboat Charter). Last May 2023, I sailed on the beautiful French Riviera with Troy's Crew for a week, and it was amazing experience! I look forward to working with Troy's crew, and exploring around the world!"
